I didn’t start photography with the intention of turning it into a business. It began as a quiet hobby. A way to slow down, pay attention, and honor the people and places I cared about.
Years ago, I took a portrait of an elderly man for a class project in rural central Minnesota. He was sitting in his garage, surrounded by his John Deere toy collection, old rusted oil cans, and vintage street signs. I didn’t know then how important that photo would become.
When I tried to find him to give him the portrait, I learned he had passed away not long before. His family told me it was the last photo they had of him before his health declined. It was also the only photo of him with the collection he loved so much. Later, I sat with his sister as she held the image in her hands and shared stories about who he was. We cried together. That was the moment I realized what photography truly is.
It’s not just about pictures. It’s about honoring presence. It’s about legacy. It’s about capturing the heartbeat of a moment, the laugh lines, the stillness, the warmth, and the quiet details that make up the story of our everyday lives.
