Michael GuynnHmongTown is a super eclectic market with stalls from individual vendors selling just about everything. Clothes, kitchenware, tools & knives, hot food, medicines, beauty products, you name it and you can probably find it here. But you will have to find it. The place is absolutely cluttered and chaotic, which is part of the charm of a market like this. Wander the halls, pop into every book and cranny, sift through the piles, and you'll find lots of interesting stuff. My only complaint is that a lot of the stalls seem to source their wares from the same supplies, so after a while you see a lot of the same items. And a number of stalls are vacant. I love seeing a specific cultural hub like this. But when the culture is unique to the area, I only with the vendors embraced that uniqueness to differentiate their shops.
VeryIncognitoCame specifically to check out the food. Which reminds me of home(Laos). I got the chicken feet papaya mild(made me cry and swear bullets, but that’s the delicious way)$18. YUM. They got fermented small crab sauce they mixed in there that gives a nice flavor profile. LOTS of peanuts which I also love to cook down my mouth from the heat. They added mango which I found delish and added a sweet taste to the bite. Also got the pork belly$12 super moist and crunchy plus the sauce it comes with?? Amazing. Not exactly crack sauce but it’s on the same spectrum. Zero regrets. Would take a trip here again(it’s only 2 bus ride away from home) 10/10 recommend for anyone that wants that true southeast Asian taste. They also got many other drink and food options for any palate level.
Ms. JuaniI was recommended here for some delicious pho and desserts. I chose HMOOB inside and I was immediately captivated. Not only is the young lady that takes your order gorgeous but the food is magnificent. I had to go back 2 days later because that Pho was perfect! Great prices and presentation. After that I had an interesting dessert from Thailand. I believe it is called Coco’s Island Nava. Everything was simply perfect and very family oriented. After you eat you can walk around and visit all the stands. It will be my to go spot when I visit Minnesota!!!!

Ali RohrbacherThe older of the two Hmong markets, with two separate buildings, was really fun to explore. Way less chaotic than Hmong Village, though much smaller. There is a larger food court in the West building, and we had some incredible curry noodles from Hmoob Kitchen, and a great bowl of beef pho from 99 KHW Wameng. There’s also a fun drink stall with a HUGE menu, but I highly recommend the combination jelly drink, it was great- kind of like banana coconut milk with more jelly textures than you can imagine. We also had some AMAZING fried sesame balls from Rose’s Kitchen in the East building- the taro especially blew me away. Best sesame balls i’ve ever had- so crispy and toasty-sesame forward at first, then the chewy barely sweet mochi flavor with the soft boiled taro. Really incredible.

Got flavors? You betcha! Little Mekong is a business & culture district. Authentic flavors and authentic experience.
